I've enjoyed experimenting with a NVMe drive on a Pi5, but it does seem a bit overkill. I just use mine to tinker about with, rather than as my daily, and would be quite happy using a USB3 SSD. Although that's fine for a Pi 5 hidden behind a monitor, I guess it's not great hanging out the back of a Pi 500 on a desk.
I use a USB3 SSD on my Pi 4 NAS and that's been perfect to serve up 4TB of storage. I use a RasPiKey EMMC module for the OS, which plugs into the SD slot and it's been very reliable. I'm not particularly keen on SD cards just because a couple corrupted on me, but I'm interested to try the new faster A2 cards.
I was hoping someone might come out with a mini graphics card (in HAT format) for the Pi 5, which would be a much more fun application of the PCIe interface, rather than M.2 disk top trumps.
