Thanks. I had read those, but in fact i have managed to resolve my issue by installing lgpio with pip3 rather than apt. I think lgpio is installed by default on bookworm but there seems to be a difference with installing it with It seems the conflict with the older Rpi.GPIO isn't an issue. It's a bit beyond me but it works now.
