74LVC245A is still available in DIP. For example, currently at mouser. The relevant info from the 74HC245 datasheet is here:

So max Vin at Vcc=3.3V would be 3.3+0.5 = 3.8V. You might find the 74LVC designers guide useful.

Edit: Although 74LVC245A inputs and outputs are 5V tolerant, max Vcc for 74LVC245A is 3.6V. I think that makes it well suited to this application but thought I should clarify that it is not always better than 74HC245, which has much higher max Vcc, for example.
