I have a SOUNDPEATS RunFree (what satays alive for about 12 hours).
I recognize comparing a window PC and the PI5, that the PI5 taks longer time before a sound is played. Any sound shorter that about 2 seconds won't give an output, with a PC is about 1 second.
Runnig this test on the RiZero2 gives no output even with 20 seconds of playing.
Now your comment about the profile makes me thinking. I restart it with GUI.
PI5 uses HSP/HFP codec mSBC
PiZero2 uses the same HSO/HFP codec mSBC
But I see another item: my python script checks for bluez input & output (pact get-default-sink / source), and for both the result is bluez_output.B4_4D_43_8F_67_51.0 / .1. But in the GUI, right click on the loudspeaker symbol says it's HDMI selected. I'm even unable do change this setting.
In any case, running my play / record script for 1 minute creates no output and zero signal for input
Same result after restart in terminal mode (just python starts VERY much faster.
Anyway it's strange that there is no aoutput at all (also in GUI VLC didn't play anythng). And I didn't install / uninstall drivers or other stuff
Just on additional thing: when my code runs, a slight noise in the headset tells me that the bluetooth connection is used
Any ideas ?! I Maybe my experience about starting time may help yuo
