HATs and other add-ons • Using GPIO Ports with Raspberry Pi 5 NVMe Hat

Hi everyone,

I recently purchased the NVMe Hat for my Raspberry Pi 5, and it’s working well with the WaveShare disk. However, I have a question about GPIO access when using this setup.

When I attach the NVMe Hat, it covers the GPIO pins, leaving me unable to access them for other uses. I’ve tried adding the included GPIO extension, but the pins still fill the Hat's slots, which blocks direct access to the GPIOs.

To solve this, I ordered additional 2x20 female GPIO headers (13mm and 3mm) from Pimoroni, hoping that by stacking them, I can extend the GPIO pins high enough to use above the Hat.

Does anyone have experience with this kind of setup? Will stacking these headers allow the GPIO pins to reach past the Hat’s board and make them usable again?
