Other projects • Re: Seeking Advice on Using Displays from Old Android Tablets with Raspberry Pi

After doing again some research I found that older iPads or Apple products in general seem to have named driver boards.(Saw some for newer generation as well and mine seems to be compatible to a iPad4 also)
I found a lot of driver boards but it is not easy to connect "random" display part numbers, if even referenced in the driver board listing, with the devices where they are usually shipped with.

Anyway I decided to buy a iPad 3 display driver board for 20€

Then I bought via ebay a broken iPad3 9,7 inch for 15€

I proceeded to carve out all from the iPad housing and then cut out a section of the back with my rotary tool.
Important: When you put the cutout on the same position, it will conflict with fpc connector of the display itself. It has at this position more depth.

Anyway im very happy with the result and paid in total 35€ for a 2000x1500 60Hz with good contrast. The display setting menu feels nice and has all the necessary settings. But I read in other reviews that people had problems using smaller resolutions than native, with strange scaling behavior.
