Troubleshooting • Re: Pi 4b constantly rebooting when usb wifi adapter connected

As stated by the post above I am using the pi 4b not the pi 5. The brick that I am using provides a max of 12V and 2.9A. I searched for raspberry pi 4b charger and it says 5.1v and 3A. I don't know if the 0.1A is going to make a difference unless there is something I'm missing. I read on the forum you can't adjust the pi 4b to give more current than 1200mA.

Ah, OK. Sorry I missed that and focussed on " using a 35w usb c wall brick" instead.

The extra 0.1V (not A) of the official PSU is to allow for voltage drop in the cable.

Your 35W PSU will only supply 15W without PD as that's what the PD spec calls for. Unless it voilates the spec and provides 7A. Which I doubt. If it support alternative fast charge standards those won't help either as no Pi supports those.

No, you can't boost USB power above 1.2A on a 4B. Do you have any other USB devices connected? The 1.2A limit is not per port. It's a limit on total current draw across all ports and there is no per port current limiting beyond that.

If you need more than 1.2A you'll need a self powered USB hub. Preferably one that doesn't violate the USB spec and back feed power to the USB host.
The only other USB device I have connected is a 32GB flash drive, which I am using to boot OpenWRT. I know I should use a microSD card, but I don't have a microSD card to USB reader. Perhaps I can use the Raspberry Pi to flash the microSD card if it supports it, but that's another issue. It seems like I'll need to get a self-powered USB hub. Is there one that you or the community recommends?
