the problem is raspberry is forking from the standard stuff, that's what makes upgrading so iffy.
if you start with a lite install and add a standard desktop, you could lower the risk of bad updates.
i'm currently moving to a lite + xfce4 as there development is fairly slow and rarely have major changes. gui wise it should be solid.
everything else is just app's it doesn't really matter the front end(desktop) they should just work.
my thoughts anyways.
