Thanks, this information was important to know before I start putting bodge wires to the Pi GPIO I didn't want wires hanging out the case unless I need them too. Seems likely I would be better off though the SWD and use the DebugProbe. I will have to test it to see.I believe it should be possible.I want to know if it's possible to connect the RP2040 to the UART1 header on the Pi5 is this a standard uart I can use to read debug data from my RP2040's UART?It used to be but I am not sure how that is for the Pi 5 which moves the GPIO from the SoC to the RP1.Second is it possible to forgo a debug probe and connect the RP2040 debug pins to the PI GPIO and program it from there?
It may be that this is one of the cases where throughput is reduced rather than improved which may be problematic.
I recall someone did discuss this - lurk101 ? I cannot remember the details but I think the conclusion was to use USB and the DebugProbe.
Found it -Yes SWD using the linuxgpiod openocd driver works on the Pi5, but at about one third the speed of the custom Pi4 driver.
One of the cables may be compatible as is but depends on the Pico or RP2040 boards you have. You should be able to find JST to flying wire so can build your own.Is there somewhere I can buy the cable to use the UART1 header I don't want to cut up any of the ones that can with my Debug Probe?
I've only had my Pi 5 booted a few times since the case I have is currently broken and it doesn't fit well the other cases I have on hand. The Pi3 B+ is the closest fit but the power button stops it from being a long term option. My only other case that might work needs a bunch of 90 degree adaptors and is put away somewhere I forgot about that one until now.
The JST to flying leads would be what I need to connect to the Pi 5's UART. The board I have need to connect to has a header where you can access the RP2040's UART and SWD.
All good info and the Link to eBay looks good I have to see if my normal gotos have such a thing in there stock.
Thanks once I can give this a test I'll try to remember to report back how I got on.
