Troubleshooting • led not turning on

Hello guys, im new to this thing, i got the pi 5 and im trying to turn on a led circuat by a terminal command.
I wrote the following commands-
gpio mode 26 out
gpio write 26 1

and then checked the readall virtual panel and i see that i did turned on the right port but no light from the LED.

Then I tried to connect the + to a 3.3v pin and it turns on.

My circuit is simple gpio 26 pin to a resistor then + pin of the LED then -to GND pin
Im using a bread bord and gpio extantion cable
