Have a look at Pythons GIL, you can turn this off in Trixie Python version 3.13, but it is still quite experimental, until you get to the newer Python version 3.14/3.15
Worth a go, but really you are I/O bound, not processor bound so... it could be the way pigpio works with its sockets and linux interaction or the coordinating the threads ?
I would recommend, while waiting.
Pop open copilot, tell it something like
Raspberry PI 4, Using Pi OS Trixie and Python 3.13 (alter to whatever you are using)
Then copy paste your post.
It should bring out information.
One tick.. seems to have plenty to get you thinking. Of course it'll need checking.
