For my case, I did specify the gateway in Network manager. Despite that, it doesn't work as intended and I am still stuck with the issue. Search results doesn't seem to have any useful pointers to a resolution either. I need to keep it static for my specific requirements. I am thinking of rolling back to the older OS versions whereby I could still use the dhcpcd.conf to set it as before. At least those were working fine for me in the BullsEye OS.
