Compute Module • CM4 won't boot from SD card in Heber MultiPi board.

I have a Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4 (CM4), which I’ve been using with a Heber MultiPi board since purchase. The module has been booting from an external USB SSD and has worked flawlessly with Batocera OS.

Recently, I attempted to boot the operating system from a MicroSD card instead, but unfortunately, the module does not detect any SD card. During boot, the screen displays the message: “SD: card not detected.” However, if I use the same SD card with an external USB card reader, the system boots without issue. I also tested with Raspberry Pi OS and observed the same behaviour: it boots from the external USB card reader but not from the built-in SD card slot on the MultiPi board.

Initially, I suspected the MultiPi board might be faulty, so I returned it for inspection or replacement. The board was tested and confirmed to work perfectly with both CM4 and CM5 modules, including booting from SD cards. This leads me to believe the issue lies with my CM4 module.

Following Heber’s advice, I reseated the CM4 module to ensure a good connection, but that didn’t resolve the problem.

Could my CM4 module be faulty? How can I narrow down the cause and identify what’s preventing SD card detection?
