I need all the UARTs for a test system for openWrt routers. The idea is to be able to connect and control the devices from the serial console to perform operations such as tftpboot from the router's bootloader (u-boot in most cases). In addition, the exptra GPIOs will be used to control the power (via relays), to simulate pressing the reset butt (probably with reed relays) and to monitor the LEDs. All kernel logs over the router's serial interface will also be saved.
Being able to test 10 from the Serial Expansion HATs plus the built-in UARTs gives me more, and more is "better".
Thanks for the tip about the FT4232. I will check it out.
