The power supply is sufficient—it can provide 30W at 5V, so 6A. I intentionally over-dimensioned the entire setup to accommodate a future upgrade, particularly for a more powerful version of the reader. Initially, the more powerful reader had both a serial communication port and a power connector, but it's now replaced with USB, which is where my concerns lie. Ideally, I would have connected the reader directly to the power supply, but given the situation, I have to work with what I have :)
