Some thoughts. Going back to the beginning do you know how much power you are going to need for these extra devices? You have 3 ports on the pi500, presumably you are using the Pi 500 internal keyboard. You have used 1 usb3 for the hub, could you not use the usb2 for the mouse? You would still have a decent usb power budget left for the hub if unpowered or on the other usb3 Pi 500 port if you powered the hub. The hub when powered will give you 3A for its usb ports as far as I know.
Earlier on you mentioned "my charger". I presume you are powering the Pi 500 from the PI official 27W power supply at present and the hub is the only thing plugged into the Apple charger. If you do use the offiicial 27W PD supply for the Pi500 I don't understand how you can avoid a different supply for the hub. Forgive me if I have missed something.
As you say total power for the hub doesn't seem to be a problem but it seems dynamic power conditions certainly do. I am sure that you would like a power supply that would drive both the pi500 and hub etc reliably, but I am not sure you will find one. This forum has many examples of unreliable behaviour and charger in the same post.
From my perspective, if I were intending to buy 20 sets for a lab, I would not change the hub I was going to use until I had tried a Pi 4 style Raspberry pi official 15W psu for powering the hub and a mix of equipment in the hub. I know its a bit messier but given its for a lab and its quite possible you may want to change the mix of devices plugged in later on and you could hit different (worse) hub incompatibility problems then.
I would also not buy 20 until I had finalised the base set consisting of Pi500, mouse, monitor, hub, power supplie(s) etc AND tested it with your mix of stuff that initially yu want to plug into usb.
