The only good thing is that AliExpress is quite good when it comes to returns. In case of $12 LCD they most probably refund you straight away and ask you to keep this LCD. Then you can grab another one unless you gave up already?
If not, it may be a better idea to try a regular style LCD, rather than white ok black film.

It's also worth to check your local eBay as these should be rather cheap a widely available. I only picked the white on black film due to project needs. These regular ones can be a completely different story, and I just found two listings with some (rather positive) reviews.
Resoldering the backpack may be not be a dream job though..
