Not sure confusing is the right term, but why there are so many different implementations of Linux is one of life's great mysteries. There must be a huge duplication of effort that could be avoided with a bit more communication so everyone converged on one OS.Open source software is 'confusing' for beginners. There are many version and branches. Each work slightly/vastly differently and quickly changing over time.
