i was going to ask a question, yet playing around got me my answer. so i'll try and answer yours.
when i hold down on my taskbar i get a menu with - add/remove pluins..., notifications..., taskbar prefs..
i selected the add/remove and then i have a left side, right side, configs, avails
when i looked at my right side, i have all kinds of stuff that wasn't showing up in my taskbar, so i started to remove of them, moved things around and then finally seen the 'squeekboard' option, moved it around until it was at the bottom of my 'right side' area and now it's showing in my task bar that i can pull it up or get rid of it.
now in my right side area of the add/remove plugins, there is system tray, bluetooth, netwok, clock, squeekboard.

it's all i need for the project that i'm working on, yet answering my own question now makes my project easier.

i have a zero 2w with a waveshare 7" ips display and am starting/trying to get used to squeekboard.
i like it so far yet would like to be able to configure it so that the terminal keyboard is the keyboard that always comes on screen.
right now, when in a terminal and i click on the icon in my toolbar, the keyboard comes up with another row across the top with the tab, ctrl, alt, arrows and a '>_' key that brings up the 'F1, F2..' and when the '123' key it brings up the numbers and what i would call a scientific keyboard.
if i'm in a different use application like 'links2 -g', then the keyboard is just a standard keyboard, letters and numbers. there is a 'globe' key that you can change the behavior of the keyboard, between english(standard keyboard?), emoji, and terminal.
