I have tinkered a LOT with the various memory options in bitcoin-core. The daemon seems to run under 10% cpu while getting the blockchain. My issue is no matter what I do the free memory drops to under 300, and the swap does the same. It doesn't crash it so far, but I'm trying to get a handle on whats going on. I can't see a thing in top to explain it. I had the daemon running on my Synology, and it had far more issues with cpu load than memory. I have been chipping away since Thanksgiving trying to just get in sync with the blockchain. I can reduce all memory options to minimums, or not, but eventually all of the memory becomes allocated. It's worth mentioning that I am running bitcoin-node-manager in nginx as well, and 95% of the time it times out trying to display the report. bitcoin-cli very often also times out trying to display info.
