For me the important difference between the Pico and Pico 2 is more RAM, but of course there are many other differences. If using both the original and Pico 2 in the same classroom one should note the uf2 files for one won't load on the other. This could cause confusion.What I really liked about this release is I had put an order in the basket for a bunch of PicoWs on Sunday night.Pico 2W arrives - $7
https://www.raspberrypi.com/news/raspberry-pi-pico-2-w-on-sale-now
That doesn't seem to be a bad price -And it looks like I was right in my prediction it wouldn't use the RM2 radio module - That's just too much extra BOM, manufacturing and assembly cost, to dump on a board which is designed down to price.Code:
.--------------.---------------.| RP2040 | RP2350A ||--------------|---------------|| Pico $4 | Pico 2 $5 | -. + $2| Pico W $6 | Pico 2W $7 | -'`--------------^---------------' | | `----- +$1 -----'
But whether it's fully usable is hard to say; is there a Pico SDK update ? I don't see Pico 2W board definitions in 2.0.0, nor anything for MicroPython - Guess it's time to go check.
Figured I'd do the payment the next day after if checked a few things.
So now this was switch to Pico2Ws
Not sure I really gain anything, I've not really looked at the benefits since I wasn't going to use the plain Pico2.
Anyone any good links to WiFi benchmarks between them.
How much faster it can blink an LED.
How much less power it needs for data logging at varying intervals. e.g. rapid, every second, every minute every 6 mins, half an hour.
