The highest I have seen when left long enough is an increase from a baseline of 400 to 678, creep of +278, about +224mV.
And that's quite extreme with a baseline of 400, about +70%.

But you said erlier:

Maximum I saw this morning after it had been sittig for a few hours was 678 16-bit, 42 12-bit, about 34mV at what I presume is 3V3 VREF.

This is not 224mV difference, and was done with partially floating internal pull-down, which is not a good reference in general, neither a proper impedance for this type of ADC input..
