many thanks to pointers from the forum. The default choice is safe from data security viewpoint. A person cannot simply plug in an USB boot drive and gain control over the computer.

However, boot order can be set by a number sequence. On boot screen, it shows which boot mode it is trying and will time out in a few seconds if no boot, then try the next boot media.
0xf614, reading from right to left. 4 means first try USB boot, then 1 is to try SD card, then 6 is to try NVMe, finally f is restart the boot order sequence
