well, I have no idea how the third party has implemented their product.the hone I have is not a "hat" in your sense since it is connencted ONLY via the PCiE tape . it does not use any of the GPIO pins.There is a HAT+ spec to answer such questions https://datasheets.raspberrypi.com/hat/ ... cation.pdf
For this reason i asked what would have happened if i had powered it from its separate input [btw: on the case, that is specific for that addition, there is not an hole for that plug] .
Maybe it would send back power to the main board via the 3.3 line ?
what would be the effect of this on the RPi ? (even if for a normal hat there is the case of the standby-warm)
PCIe connector spec is published, official HAT+ schematic is published.
If your 'non-HAT' backfeeds the 3.3V rail you will see issues for sure -> pretty bad product design of the third party.
