If you are talking about RPI OS then my question is why? The PI Imager has been created to reduce installation headaches.
If you are talking about Linux in general then you will need to investigate the different distributions but there are differences. For example, I recently install Linux MINT on an old MACbook. I easily create a 'live run' DVD which allowed me to use MINT before installing it. The same DVD did the install.
So, I would suggest that manufacturers are simplifying the install process. Personally, you may be better off focusing on Linux System Administration.
