That's a nice-looking mount. Luckily I have cheaper hobbies
But if I win a lottery, I'll buy one and put a Takahashi refractor on it.
Factories in China can produce good stuff like IKEA furniture, but some are also quite capable of producing real dodgy stuff as well. Or some reseller has good advertising but got their electronics stock at bottom-dollar. There's always some risk when buying online. One person may have a consistently great experience with clone boards, another might not.
I don't disagree that, when something servo-related fries, all sorts of bad things can happen. But when things are working normally, the average hobbyist does not expect unusual voltages and current going about and stressing other circuits. Burnt hobby servos, burnt servos due to stalling too much, these are common topics. Servos working fine while control boards go bust is less common.
Ultimately, I poke here and there because I want to learn the actual reason for the part failure. But I guess we won't have a definitive answer for now. If it's flakey Pico W clone boards, perhaps more reports will pop up. Let's wait and see.
