Can't use Raspberry Pi Imager for reasons.
But for years, I just used dd, ran a small script to set up ssh/LAN/WiFi and a few other items. But now with bookworm, it just forces me into the raspiconfig (or of sorts. Have a monitor but no keyboard monitor)
What files do I gotta tweak now to get it to just work? I tried adding lines from /etc/passwd and /etc/shadow, but no joy.
(I'm happy on a command line, but there is only ONE reason why linux will *never* win the desktop: simply is _linux_ )
There is Raspberry Pi documentation on this topic here -
Set up a headless Raspberry Pi - https://www.raspberrypi.com/documentati ... spberry-pi
But it may be a (partial) dead-end.
Username and ssh can be sorted out. So if you have a cabled Ethernet connection you are up and running. And you can subsequently enable wireless access if you need it.
Wireless networking as the only means of access has this explicit note:
Previous versions of Raspberry Pi OS made use of a wpa_supplicant.conf file which could be placed into the boot folder to configure wireless network settings. This functionality is not available from Raspberry Pi OS Bookworm onwards.
