i run lite + gnome-core on both a rpi4-4gb & rpi5-8gb
That is RPI vendor kernel and various patches here and there in Debian Bookworm.

Ubuntu 24 is something quite different. It depends a lot on how the kernel currently used in there for RPi was/is configured and compiled.

A brute force trick/method is to take the RPI stable kernel from the download URL in the 'Update RPi firmware' .PDF and copy/merge that into the Ubuntu 24 installation on the SD-card. Then high chance it works fine. But is a dirty hack/workaround as it gets you out of sync with normal Ubuntu updates. It can be made automatic if you know how to do 'apt pinning' or so, but I don't know that, have no experience with it.
