Also, those keyboard option can be reconfigured using raspi-config, under "Localisation Options". Sometimes editing config files don't make the changes stick.
I have XKBOPTIONS="compose:rwin" in /etc/default/keyboard via raspi-config, and Compose works properly under Wayland.
But yes, there are a lot of things that Wayland won't let you do. I miss follow focus from Sun days, but it's been so long since any desktop I used supported it.
I don't think openbox / obconf is around any more, either. For a while it could do bad things, so it as best avoided
