The original text has, which appears to have been "GPIOs are 5 V-tolerant (powered), and 3.3 V-failsafe (unpowered)", with being tolerant to 5V5 when IOVDD is powered by 3V3 now only described in the Electrical Specification table. The text about 5V fault tolerance with 3v3 VDD applied appears to have been silently removed from the datasheet?
To me both say the same, the original text was clear and correct, wasn't advertising something which didn't exist, wasn't making claims beyond how the datasheet has it now.
The problem is some people saw "5V tolerant", started whooping for joys, rushed to tell others it was "5V tolerant", without regard to the caveat.
With that being the case it doesn't seem unreasonable to have removed the text.
It seems many forums where the RP235X was proclaimed to be 5V tolerant are now mentioning the caveat. The issue with people having the apparently same version of the datasheet, but with different text in it, should be resolved when the next version is released with an incremented revision number.
