How many mm? The Pi M.2 HAT+ leaves what looks like 3mm.reasonable gap
I use another brand and looked at the Pimoroni. Their list of "maybe do not use" SSDs includes one running happily in my device.Pimoroni NVMe base

The other brand has pins for 5 volt and ground. The Pi M.2 HAT+ connects to all the GPIO pins through an extender. That might solve the problem Pimoroni mentions about power limitations.
