Hello all.
RPi5 currently running x64 Ubuntu Server 24.04 LTS. Previously 23.10. Before that RPi4 on 22.04.
It used to be I could remotely SSH into my RPis using a local fixed IP address to do updates no problem. I was doing this using PowerShell on a Windows 11 Pro machine. At some point on my RPi4, suddenly when there were periods of more than a few seconds during the updates where nothing was going on in the ssh screen due to the RPi "thinking" (for lack of a better word because I need more coffee), the ssh would just stop responding. However, the updates would complete no problem....it's just that the ssh screen stopped responding. It did this on all of the above machines and Ubuntu versions. I could close the PowerShell window and log back in, and I could tell the RPi had properly updated and had not rebooted or crashed. I suspected it was a PowerShell anomaly. It wasn't a big deal as it was updating no problem, just an annoyance.
Today I decided to install Putty to ssh in an effort to stop the hangs. Putty did the same thing, which means that it is likely the RPi/Ubuntu which is the problem. However, I have no idea how to track this down or fix it.
I am an Ubuntu idiot with very low level knowledge. I use the RPi as a controller for my Unifi networking/wifi setup only. After doing a clean install of 24.04 recently, I logged in remotely and ran updates. The ssh response hang happened even during those updates, so I know it's not the Unifi software. I also know that there is no hang when my RPi is connected to a monitor and keyboard and I am not using ssh.
If anybody has any suggestions on how to track this down (is there an ssh log somewhere?) and fix it, I would be very appreciative. Thanks in advance for any and all help.
