Advanced users • Pi5 Custom MIPI display questions /GPU performance

I have been unable to find a helpful block diagram of the Pi5. It seems that the 2x 4k hdmi ports are directly connected to the CPU while the MIPI ports flow through the P1 (i.e. PCIe then MIPI).

1. Does a display connected and correctly configured over MIPI lanes act exactly the same as an HDMI display as far as the GPU is convened? Same performance? Same Vulkan support? Is there anything I need to know like an extra frame copy? Latency?

2. If I develop my own display are there any restrictions in performance like fps, x or y resolution or xy ratios other than fitting the bandwidth limitation? i.e. 3gbit per mipi port? Can I define a display as 1,300x times 3000y times 30fps @ 24 bit for 2.8GBit/sec. (assuming no blanking with MIPI)

And if you are so inclined - any tips / documents to get started defining a custom mipi interface device on the Pi5.

Kind regards!
