Problem: Built-in screen blanker does what I want, which is cut power to the screen, not just blank it, after 10 minutes. But it does so even if, say, I am watching a video in Firefox.
Desired result: Screen blanker doing what it does, but not when something that is going on onscreen without user input every few minutes.
Discussion: There apparently was a time that the blanker would not come on at all if Firefox was running at all, even minimized. Now it apparently has swung entirely the other way, coming on even when Firefox (and perhaps other applications; I do not know) is running and doing something.
For the *sole* reason of bringing this about, I installed Xscreensaver. I do not care about flying toasters, I just want power cut to the screen a specified amount of time after the screen stops doing anything.
But there are contradictions: Preferences > Raspberry Pi Configuration > Display reports that the blanker setting is overridden when Xscreensaver is installed, but this is not true. If the blanker is set to off, Xscreensaver has no access to dpms and cannot cut power to the screen. If the blanker is set to on, Xscreensaver now can turn off the screen.
So. Blanker set to on. Xscreensaver set to cut power to the screen after five minutes.
A battle erupts. Now, when watching a video in full screen on Firefox, the screen blanks, for from 5 to 20 seconds, every 10 minutes. It powers down. Then it comes back. I have observed this only in Firefox. It does not happen in FreeTube, for instance.
I'm trying simply to get the native screen blanker to kick in only when there is nothing happening on the screen. Anyone know of a way I can make this happen?
