Top marks, looks better than my first QFN chip at work using a proper rework station with hot plate, vacuum pick, nitrogen gas and dedicated nozzle on a bare practice board.
The ground pad is probably going to stop it latching/pulling straight like happens with a normal BGA/QFN/QFP chip. For a hot plate I've used a sheet of metal on the cooker/stove, I err on the low temperature side, any increase in temperature is better than none and a board of floating components is the last thing you want.
Deteriorating eyesight is a "female dog", I used to laugh at my older colleagues struggles but now I have three pairs of glasses and two magnifying glasses on my desk and understand their frustration. Loads of light helps, go for a soft hue if possible rather than intense harsh white, its detail you want, not solely brightness.
